Pinacate Biosphere Reserve

Pinacate Biosphere Reserve is a UNESCO World Heritage site that abuts Arizona. The area   has many volcanoes that paved the desert with massive lava flows in the past. Volcanic activity from 47,000 to 12,000 years ago was concurrent with human habitation of the area. It must have been difficult living in an area where lava might flow through your village.

The visitor center has great displays about the flora, fauna, geology, and indigenous people that settled here 40,000 years ago, all in swainish. But they do have an excellent english film showing in the auditorium. The informational sign on the walks around the center are in english and spanish.

Paying the $4 entrance fee

Pinacate beetle tracks

Life is tenacious

Aa lava, it cooled very quickly and is very sharp.

Pahoehoe lava cools slower and is smooth and rope like.

The creosote bushes are blooming.

Serenity started getting her face lift today.

Puerto PeƱasco

I am down in Puerto Penascco, Mexico with the WINs. This is my go to spot for body work. I was quoted 6 to 8 thousand in the state to powder Serenity's nose. I will be $500 down here and look just great.

There is a wide, gently sloping beach in front of the RV park here. Great for nice long walks.

Interesting white crab. It may live in a burrow.

There are many small marine snails here.

Serenity is getting the spa treatment. A whole body wash and wax. Body work come next.

Doesn't she look great

Out for the $5 breakfast. The WINs love a deal.

Great idea

Mexico Bound

I am heading to Puerto Penasco with the WINs. I will be great to see old friends and Serenity is getting a little body work, AGAIN.

We are staging  at Organ Pipe. This is a beautiful lush green desert landscape. Our caravan of 35 or 40 rigs will be leaving Monday,  9 am sharp.

Today we crossed over the border to buy insurance. Yes, you can buy insurance on the US side, but short walk across the border saves one money. The WINs are very frugal.

Awesome Family Time

I have been spending some quality time with my son's family in the bay area. He has two daughters, my special grandaughters Emma and Rachel. And yes mine are definitely cuter than yours.

This is Emma and my third puzzle of the morning. It was also the hardest, 100 pieces. Emma has a great eye for finding matching pieces.

While the girls are in school I pulled the and cleaned the house batteries.

I made all the connectors shinny and bright. The electrons
really appreciate this.

Helping Rachel with her homework.
Need I say, she is very bright.

Playing Pie in your face with Rachel. You use the spinner to tell you how many times you have to turn the handles. The number of turns it takes to release the hand varies. Quite often you get a wet sponge in the face. For more messy fun you can use whip cream.

Crotched Mountain

Tired of shoveling snow, I decided to turn lemons into lemonade. The local ski hill is just 15 minutes from the house. Very few skiers, make your run and get right back on the lift. Got to love mid-week skiing.

Beautiful view NH country side

Crotched mountain has a 1000 foot drop, not much by western standards. But a good challenge for an old foggie who hasn't skied in 7 years. Two hours in my legs started feeling like wet noodles. All and all, a very nice day.

Good Food, Good Company

We enjoyed one of Linda's wonderful dinners while solving local and world problems. Bob and Leandra are local and old friends of Linda. Carol is Bob's sister visiting from Main.

The high today was 19 degrees. It will stand as the record high until the 4th. Wed's high is predicted to be 5 degrees.

More Snow

We are still combating winter blues with warm fires and good movies. Thankfully we have passed the winter solstice.
I plowed the drive for the first time today. I think I did OK, but spring will tell when we find out how many plants I plowed up.

Snow Let It Snow

First storm of the season.

A roaring fire and good movie help brighten the short gloomy days and long long nights.

Thanksgiving Dinner's Arrival

Post Thanksgiving report:
Not worth it.

Turkey good - cooked by Butter Ball
Apple and Pumpkin pies tolerable
Linda doctored the cranberry sauce transforming it to an edible state
Linda also made some delicious stuffing from scratch because:
Stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, spinach dip were terrible and went into the garbage

UPS dropped off our Boston Market dinner in a box. Linda's broken foot prevents her from cooking and the thought of me cooking....... :-(

Heat and serve

Crackers and spinach dip, dinner rolls, turkey, dressing, gravy,  mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, apple and pumpkin pie. Every thing except the whip cream

The Cruise The Cruise

Our romantic cruise through Europe.

NOT

Linda broke her foot a week before we were scheduled to depart on our cruise.

Dr. Zickle points out Linda's heal bone fracture, the dark area below her finger.

Immobilizing  the ankle with a splint.

We are spending the winter in Hancock, NH.
First snow, didn't stick.
