Louisiana State Capital

This monument to art deco was built during the great depression. Governor Huey Long convinced the public and the legislature that a new state capitol would save the state money because of its efficient modern structure.  He was assassinated in the lobby three years after its completion.

The building exhibits beautiful sculpture and relief work.

There are 48 steps, each carved with the state's names in the order of admittance to the union.

Entrance Hall. On the right wall are all the flags that have flown over Louisiana.
Entrance Hall light.
The one ton bronze senate doors.

The senate chambers. The wood and marble were imported from all over the world.
