We visited the Pinacate Biosphere Reserve, a World Heritage Site in the northwesten corner of Mexico. It covers a thousand sq mi of the austere Sonoran Desert with a surprising abundance of plant and animals. Over 540 species of plants, 40 species of mammals, 200 of birds and 40 of reptiles and freshwater fishes that inhabit a few permanent water sources.
