Scenic Flaming Gorge Reservoir lies at the bottom of 2000 feet red canyon walls. Fur trapper William Ashley the first to float through the canyon on May 3, 1825. John Wesley Powell explored the Green river in 1869 and named it Flaming Gorge. The reservoir was created when Flaming Gorge Dam was completed in 1964.
