Canyonlands National Park is huge, covering 337,598 acres of gorgeous terrain. Island in the Sky is a 6,000 foot high plateau with breath taking views. Other areas of the park are Needles and The Maze.
Driving across the plateau. It has been a wet spring all is bright and green

Flowers and blooming everywhere
The road clinging to the canyon wall is the Shafer Trail. It quickly drops 1,400 feet providing access to the backcountry and the 100 mile White Rim road. Originally it was a narrow trail to move cattle to and from the mesa. In the 1950s uranium was discovered. The trail was widened for trucks transporting the ore. True story, an 18 wheeler blindly following his GPS and took this road. He did make it to the bottom, but it was touch and go.
Hiking out to Mesa Arch
Waiting your turn for a photo with the arch
The arch with the people to the left cropped out

Down there is where the final scene of Thelma and Louise was filmed

Another wonderful day on the road.
