Rushmore and Crazy Horse

We took a Black Hills tour that began at Fort Hays in Rapid City SD.  They have two building moved from the set of Dancing With Wolves.

It was great to leave the driving to someone else on these tight narrow roads.

Traveling with good friends makes things better

 The Needles

On to an area of eroded granite pillars called the Needles. The road is a narrow serpentine path so tight we often had to use both lanes to round a corner.  There are several narrow tunnels, each one smaller than the last. Our driver Roy did an excellent job handling this full size bus.

The last and smallest tunnel, the Needles Eye. It is 8 feet, 4 inches wide and 11feet 3 inches high.

This bus is 9 feet wide.

I would not drive my rig through here.

Crazy Horse Monument

Very talented hoop dancers

When competed, Crazy Horse will be the largest monument in the world. All four heads at Mount Rushmore would fit in Crazy Horse's head. 

Scale model is 1//34th the size of mountain carving.

Alas, I will never see it finished.
